Religion vs. Science?
Today we continued watching the "God in America" video. One major issue that arose was the clash/combination of religion and science. Most people know how religion seems to be at odds with science, especially evolution and all that. But what I found interesting today was how some religious people actually believed that religion and science could work together and that with both of them together, it could strengthen the Bible and a person's belief. I thought that was interesting because, as mentioned earlier, most times religion seems to clash with science. But there was actually a group of people that believed that religion and science could be compatible. One leader who led this idea was Briggs. He believed that he grew closer to God when he incorporated the Bible with science. And the people that also believe this were called Liberal Christians (I think). What I thought was very interesting was how some people would accept science and actually use it to strengthen their religious beliefs, but others just shut it off completely. What do you guys think about the situation of religion and science?

The conflict between religion and science has occured for centuries, and will continue to occur in the future.
ReplyDeleteI think that people should be taught both religion and science theories so that they have the right to decide which one they belief in. Because there will never be a right answer since both of them have their own theories. The science people will never believe in the religious people and the religious people will always think that they are right so the conflict between them will never be solved so why not let us decide by ourselves what to believe and what to not believe in.
ReplyDeleteI think that only science should be taught at school because some people are not religious. But I agree that there will never be a right answer of which is right, science or religion.
ReplyDeleteOr maybe a lecture about it should be offered at school so that people who are interested in it can sign up and learn more about the religious theories.
ReplyDeleteI think science should be taught in school because church and state are supposed to be separate. I think religious beliefs can be taught in private schools but in public schools, there are people of different religious backgrounds and some who are not religious at all. It wouldn't' be fair to them to promote one religion/religion at all.
ReplyDeleteI believe that religion and science are actually related, because Darwin, the world's most famous evolutionist (who came up with the theories) only provides evidence for what happens to the nature once it is on earth, he does not provide an explanation for how nature came about to be. He uttered a famous statement, "natura non facit saltum” (nature does not jump). This means, that without admitting it, Darwin new that there was and is some non-scientific explanation to this process, possibily a supreme being like God who sprouted the growth of nature and mankind like the first book in the bible, Genesis argues.
ReplyDeleteI feel as if both science and religion are similar in the sense that they represent two ways mankind has developed to explain his surroundings. Both are limited in their scope however, due to it's constraints imposed on them.
