Factory Towns
Today we watched video segments about the wealthy, poor, middle class, and the factory workers. What I thought was interesting was the segment about factories and how they would have towns for the workers to live in. What was crazy about the towns though was that the factory's owner would also own the town. They were the landlords of the workers, the one that sold them food and items that they needed. Everything these workers had came from the factory owner. I thought it was insane how much control a factory owner had over his owners. The idea that someone could have that much power is incomprehensible, especially in today's world. It makes me appreciate the laws and rules that are in place today that make sure these things don't happen so that we don't have to deal with it.

Many factory workers are struggling with this roblem overseas in China. Although the US now has labor laws, China still has child labor, long hours, and little pay for its workers.
ReplyDeleteI agree that we should be thankful that now a days we have laws and rules about how we don't have people with so much power because then that would make America a wild place because everyone would try to get a lot of power.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree that we should be thankful to the labor laws nowadays because a lot of factory workers in China committed suicide due to their poor working conditions.
ReplyDeleteI agree the whole idea of having factory towns was like having indentured servants because the factory owners controlled every aspect of their lives and it was hard for them to leave. I think we have definitely improved our working, conditions and we are lucky to live in America because some other places have much worse conditions and less workers' rights.
