On flight 11, these phone calls and brief conversations were revealed:
- Madeline Sweeney's phone call: Flight attendant Sweeney placed a cell phone call to American Arilines flight services office, and reached her friend, services manager Michael Woodward, starting at 8:21 and talked for 25 minutes, until the plane crashed. Sweeney related many details such as wounds by victims of the hijackers to seat numbers of the hijackers. 3 There are conflicting reports on whether the call was recorded.
- Betty Ong's phone call: Flight attendant Betty Ong called Vanessa Minter at American Airlines reservations at 8:21, and talked for 23 minutes, until the plane crashed. Nydia Gonzalez also listened in from 8:27. The FBI refused to release a recording of the first 4-1/2 minutes of the conversation, but during the 9/11 Commission's January 27, 2004 hearing, the recording was played
On flight 93, over 30 phone calls were recorded.
It seems nearly impossible, that nearly half these phone calls were made on cell phones. Cell phones do not have reception on an aircraft, unless it is flying very low, which was a possbility on Flight 93, which flew very low for the last 15 minutes of its flight into the Twin Tower. But the calls were often very cliche and cheesey, saying I love you, tell my kids bye etc. So were these calls faked, or are they actually real? What definitely concerns and shocks me is the fact that they would not release the very first four and a half minutes of Betty Ong's recorded phone call conversation...makes me wonder, what is there to hide? Why would they refuse to release the beginning of the call to the public? Is there something we do not know? Kind of makes me feel hesitant of the situation..
ReplyDeleteI agree. It's suspicious that the first four minutes weren't released for Betty Ong's phone call. Seems like the government is trying to hide something. But the phone calls seem real. If the government is using it as evidence for the crashes, than the probability of the calls being real is pretty high. Why would the government use something that is fake?

DeleteI agree with Andrea because if it was just a normal phone call to a love one saying goodbye why wouldn't they release it? It could only be that there was something in the background that clear to hear that could have important information about the attack.

DeletePersonally I believe the cheesy and clicheness of the calls is to be expected. If you knew you were going to die soon and you had no idea how much longer you had to talk on the phone you wouldn't waste time talking about nonsense you would get straight to the point.
ReplyDeleteGranted that 9/11 is one of the largest acts of terrorism committed on U.S. soil, I understand to an extent why portions of phone calls have not been released to the public. We have the right to question why the government hasn't released them, but we also must be aware of the extent of the situation

ReplyDeleteMost of the calls were actually made from seat back phones not cell phones. The seat back phones worked pretty well. The Flight attendant Betty Ong, is remaining calm, as she is supposed to, as a flight attendant they must remain as calm as possible to not create a bigger more chaotic problem.
ReplyDeleteHere is the link that I used for my information about the phone calls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z96MZOZyilo
ReplyDeleteI have read that a lot of the phone calls were made off of the plane, therefore the calls were true. I do expect for each person to say the same thing because each of them was going to loose their life. I also think the government has the right to not release some information because of how huge this attack was for their reason.
ReplyDeleteBeing that the phone calls conpisracy was the topic I'm researching this post is very interesting to me! I found Betty Ong's tone of voice in the recording pretty suspicious and faked. Have you ready about Project Achilles? It was an experiment to test if phone calls were possible from a plane back in 2001. Here's a link:
