World War Two

Here is a summary of last weeks notes:

Tensions early cold war:
communism vs. capitalism, ideals are against each other

Situation in Europe:
-controlled by soviet union
-Europe is still recovering from war

Situation in asia:
-japan is occupied by the U.S since 1945
-korea split into two halves: north korea occupied by the USSR and south korea occupied by the US

-United states in a unique position, better than it was before it started ww2 unlike all other nations

United Nations:
-promote peace
-promote security
-promote human rights
-provide humanitarian assistance
-promote social development
-promote economic development
-promote cooperation and collective action amongst members

Marshall Plan:
-huge aid program to western europe and funded by the U.S. it is to help them recover from the war and keep faith in democracy and capitalism.

Berlin Airlift:
-Stalin wanted to drive the west out of west berlin, cut off the west
-the west began to airlift in supplies
-U.S. won

NATO:
-a take on one, is an attack on all

-defensive alliance

  1. I think the most improtant plans within these pieces of evidence was the NATO and the Berlin Airlift. Because the NATO was a western pro capitalist group which supported the freedom movement and basically anti-communist movement. When Berlin was cut off from Germany, the NATO (US) felt the need to help Berlin. While the United States was at the forefront of this war with it's ongoing relations with the Soviets and constant disagreements, every country was important in protecting the alliance of communist powers and communist countries throughout the world.

  2. I agree with Carina, I believe that the NATO was what made such a huge impact on the Berlin wall.
